Has anything ever happened to you pooch that nearly made your heart stop? Meaning an accident or health problem that you most likely had to rush to the vet or maybe it was that your dog ate a handful of chocolate? Share your scariest story here and see if any others have been through what you went through.

Chip was about 5 yo. It was a stormy Friday night in late November. Chip was not eating very well and had an appointment to see the vet the next day. About 10:30 pm I hearld him "licking his chops" When I turned toward him to see what he was doing I noticed that the hole front of his body and dowm the right front leg was covered in fresh blood. Well, needless to say, I was in TOTAL panic. I spent the next 5 minutes cleaning him up and trying to find out what was going on. Then I grabbed the phone and called the after hours number for the vet. After arranging to met the vet at his office, I grabbed a big towel in one hand and picked him up and carried him to my car. BTW, we were getting "freezing rain" and I had to run the car for about 15 minutes to melt the ice off the windsheild. Then it was a5 MOH drive the two miles to the vet office. BTW, it was an inpacted tooth and the gum was infected. He ended up having 3 pulled that next morning. It happened 3 more times and he had a total of 9 pulled in about 4 years.

Is that common in dalmatians? The inpacted teeth issue? Must've been really bad if he was bleeding that much! The thing that really scares me about Junior is when he occasionally gets out of the house because someone leaves the door open. We live in a subrural area so not that many cars but the freeway does run right next too us, that along with coyotes and snakes scare me when he's out.

NO its not that common ... We think that by eating a little kibble that evening it cut his gum open.

Idk y, but I imagine that this might happen a little more often in dogs that have short and long muzzle breeds mixed into them... Hmm haven't heard of this kind of problem before, I'll have to do some researching

I never imagined it either. Chip was a Pure Breed and there were NO dental issues in his blood line back 9 generations. I spoke to the breeded after the first one, she was horrified.

The following is a true story: My sister was outside when the dog was hers. She was with the baby also and everything was normal. They were outside when suddenly her dog goes to the street. "VVVVVRRRRRRMMMMPFFFFF" My sister ran inside my house in total panic, I was also panicing too. My sister was all like "THEY JUST RAN THE DOG OVER" Suddenly her dog comes in the house panicing too. We checked his leg and he was limping. He smelled like fish because the car went over him. You could see the tire marks on his body. 2 days after that, he is totally fine as if the accident never happened. Months after that the dog became mine.

I don't know, probably because the car hit him and cars are dirty. I meant to say he smelled bad.

Had a bad scare not long ago. The dog was in the kitchen while my daughter and I were trying to clean the fridge. Normally we put him out when we clean but I broke an egg on the floor and I was actually hoping he would help with the clean up. Nope, he went and tried to eat an SOS pad. I did find out that my dog is not the only one that seems to like the things. It is actually fairly common. The soap itself is not harmful but the steel wool can cause real damage. Lucky for us we were right there to get it back before he managed to swallow any.

Out working in the yard one day, watching the dogs playing, and DeeOhGee came walking up to me with his head hanging down. I looked to see what was wrong and he had blood pouring from his nose. All I could think of was poison...you never know about neighbors and Rotties...so I grabbed him up and ran. All 114 lbs of him. Got him into the car and off we went to the vet. I didn't even call first. $78 later, it was decided that he just had a bloody nose, probably one of the other dogs had collided with him. Another time, another dog, Abby fell through the ice into a frozen pond. The look on her face when her head came up was resigned, as if she knew this was how she would die. I went after her and got her out of the mess. Nearly died myself!

My only one was with Chip. We were watching TV on a friday evening when we heard Chip making that "clacking" sound (like he was chewing on something and it wasnt going down. When i investagated, I saw that his mouth was full of blood and the whole front of him (legs and chest) was covered in blood. I rushed him into the bathroom and put him in the tub. I washed the blood off of him and found that his right lower gum was bleeding. My GF called the Vet's emergency number and we took him in. The weather was kindof bad that night. It had been "freezing rain" for several hours. The vet is only about 2 miles away and it took 10 mins to get there. The next day Chip had 2 teeth pulled and over the next 3 years this happened 2 more times. (but the weather was much better).
