As some of you know, Neka and Patchs have three boyfriends that live 3 houses down the street from us. They are 3 handsome Labs named Colter (15 1/2), Zeb (10), and Sarge (3). We get together 4-5 times a week after work or on the weekends to let them all play together. We have a great little pack.
Today after work we went down to visit and play. During the conversation Steve, (the dad) informed me that Colter had a stroke this morning and was down for about 30 minutes. He took him to the vet, and the vet said it looks like he has had 3-4 mini's in the past month or so, and this last one may have had a big effect on his quality of life.
This evening we noticed that Colter just kind of wandered around and didnt want to play ball or eat. This is not like him at all. (He lives to chase the ball). When it was time for them to go to thier kennels, Colter just stood there like he didnt know what to do. It was really sad.
In the past few months we have been talking about the end of a dog's life. I had explained that when a dog is ready, he/she will let you know. Without any prompting, Steve turned to me and said, "I think Colter is telling me he's ready to go play with Chip and Hoss.
As Neka, Patchs and I walked back home thru the back yards, i couldn't help sheading a tear. I looked to the sky and said, "Colters coming to see you soon, you guys have fun" ... Neja & Patchs both looked at me like i was nuts!
Here is a picture of Colter taken about 5 years ago.
