Computer problem!!! Vide
PostSubject: Computer problem!!!   Computer problem!!! Icon_minitimeThu Jan 14, 2010 7:07 pm

Okay well I been having problem with my laptop. I usually leave my laptop turned on all the time and other night I woke up and like Always I grab it and sit it on my bed and it was dead. Couldn't understand why. So I messed with charger for a little bit and got it in right spot where it would charge so I got it working. So we went to the computer store where we got it from. It is a Lenovo aka IBM company. Well he said to bring in my laptop and the cord, so I did and he tested it said nothing was wrong with the cord but the charger thing in the laptop was defective and it was in the motherboard so I would have to ship my laptop back and get a new motherboard and I should get it back in a few weeks. Then he tried plugging in a universal charger and it wouldn't charge with that. Well he said he checked my charger wire and didn't seem broken anywhere...then took battery out and said if the charger in the laptop was any good it could turn on with just the cord. Or something I was totally lost!

Well I got to thinking...Someone told me universal might or might not work, and if there was a problem with my laptop...the charger cord wouldn't work at all. I am able to turn the wires some so that it does charge. SO I am thinking the computer expert might be wrong. I just wish my mom would pay the 50 for the cord...if not shes making me send my laptop back this coming Tuesday...joy -.-! Sorry I had to rant! Not been a good start to new year at all.

A common problem with laptops is people (unknowingly) being too rough with plugging the power cord into the power supply. Generally what happens then is the soldering comes loose. Be very careful with that, if it shorts out it can fry the motherboard. Ive seen it happen time and time again, my husband used to repair laptops for his job.

Honestly I would send it in and get it repaired. Dont mess around with a universal plug, you have to make sure it is designated specifically for the appropriate watts, or you can overheat and/or fry the MB that way too.

I like laptops only for the mobility. Otherwise they are far too proprietary for me and expensive to fix.

Hope you get it fixed, I know I would be a lost soul without my computer.

Well if its the laptop, what I dont understand is...why does it still charge when i move the laptop wire? If it was the laptop wouldnt the cord not work at all?

Your D/C connector (where you connect your charge cord) is soldered directly to the motherboard. The soldering has worked loose, but if you wiggle it, you move it enough to make the connections contact each other the way they are supposed to, so that your cord will then work to charge it. The more you do that, though, the more you are loosening the DC connector from the MB, even if you dont think you are.
