As the night before Christmas comes ever so near,
Its a time for the parties, the goodwill and cheer.
Another year passes, one dog is now two,
Patchs was added, but she’s not really new.
Like peas in a pod, we do all things together;
We sat down last night to write Santa “the letter”.
Not much for themselves, daily walks, and some toys;
also some playtime with neighborhood girls and boys.
For years now I've known, that St. Nick is not real;
But they both believe, so it’s still a big deal.
Concern for the puppies they asked Santa one thing.
They’re not sure that puppies are the right things to bring.
New puppies are fun, they love to visit and play;
but sadness takes over when they aren’t there to stay.
They both can’t believe, that someone would give up;
a beautiful soul because it’s still not a pup!
Dogs shouldn’t be toys, which you put on the shelf;
they give out love freely, they don’t think of themselves.
They need loving homes, a commitment for life;
If you can’t make that work, please don’t ruin their lives.
Remembering with solace my companions of past;
I hold love and memories that I know now will last.
I think of them often, and the times that we had;
They are now up in Heaven, hangin’ out with my dad.
Dogs give us their best, every day of their life,
giving us love, and remove all our strife.
They are truly a gift that's not just for a season;
They give us themselves for all the right reasons.
At Christmas we hasten to buy kids a great gift;
but there's one thing important we sometimes might miss.
A dog should be family, and cared for the same;
A dog is a life, not a thing to put outside on a chain.
