I'm sure you guys know that some dogs look different when they don't have certain things done with them when they are puppies, such as taping ears up, holding the tail down with a weight, holding ears down, etc. I'm not talking about surgical things either, just taping or holding down. What do you guys think about that? Do you like it the way standards have it set or do you like the look of an all natural dog?

well, depends.... I have a mini schnauzer and i like them better with their tails docked, but i think their ears should not be cropped. their ears are what gives them character and they are just wayyy too cute.

Baloo has what they call "nuns ears", where they kind of stick up and out, not lying flat as they should on a Rottie. This may correct itself with age, but I've been told that if I intended to take him into a show ring, I would have needed to weight the ears down, starting a couple of months ago. I love his silly ears and don't have any desire to show him, as there's no chance that I would ever breed him. I don't really know how often this occurs with the ears, and I don't know the little imperfections that plague other breeds. I guess I like a natural dog.

Ya, I love Baloo's ears the way they are too There's a rottie breeder on another forum I go to, she was showing us pictures of her rottie pup and she had her ears glued down, never heard of that being done, but the pup didn't seem to mind

My preference would be not to alter or dock anything. Only 2 of the pups in Baloo's litter had their tails docked, and then when we did the puppy swap, I ended up with a docked pup. I've never heard of glueing ears down, have only heard of taping them, or weighting them down with a coin, etc. I think I got another good photo of Baloo's ears flying around last night but haven't downloaded it from the camera yet. I'll post it if it's any good!
