How many here groom their own dog? Is your particular pooch low maintainance or high maintainance? What kind of things do you do when you groom your dog: brush? Bath? Clip Nails?

I "Use" To groom my dog but his coat got bad and full of dandruff. It was pretty bad, and one day during a pet parade some lady thought my dog was the cutest and she gave me a 30 dollar gift card to her grooming place. So after a few visits she got his fur fixed and seems like I wasn't bathing him the correct way and after that I been taking him to a groomer and so since then his fur has been really good and healthy. (knock on wood!)

Patchs' is low maintanence. A towel and a brush is about all I need to keep her clean. A quick bath once in a while and she's ready to go!!!

Neka needs a bit more work, she needs to be brushed out every few days and she sheds a bout more. I also have to dust mop several times a week to keep her hair from piling up in the corners. ROFL

I hear ya Michael, I have problems with Junior fur flying everywhere! Although I bet Neka's fur is a little heavier and falls easily, not with Junior, his is so light it usually flies around! Thank goodness he doesn't shed all too much anymore!

I also bath, dry, and brush my pooch. I dont' cut his nails because his walks do that, other than that he is a very clean dog Grin

I DO trim thier nail. Patchs' nails grow very very fast.

Neka gets a nail trim about ever two months.

we've trimmed his nails and give him baths ..but as for cutting hair... just a trim if he has matts ( which he hasnt had since he was a puppy) but i am not good with even my own hair , so i dont trust myself giving him a nice haircut..so yeah..we take him to a groomer to get him cut and glands expressed

props to you guys who groom your dogs! Smile

I groom my own dog although I really wonder why I bother. The first thing he does after a brush is jump into the pond and then roll in the sand.

Yes that is true, but must he get completely wet and roll in dirt or sand? He could at least stick to the grass!
Theres enough sand in his coat to make a castle by the time he is finished!

ROFL Some dogs are JUSt that way ... Actually, it goes back to the fact that they are trying to mask thier scent to other animals.

Nervous That might be a good alternative! I'm fortunately Jr doesn't do that, but Sheetza sure does!

Although one time, Jr did roll in the dirt right after he got wet....not fun!

And THAT is why I don't like going to lakes.lol. I'll take the beach over lakes anytime, besides Junior probably wouldn't be the only one covered in sand there....I'm pretty sure I would too ROFL

LOL,
Although I hate the smell, I would hate to deprive my dog of one of his favorite things to do!

Agree, can't tell ya how long it took us to get out that smell when she decided she was going to be cute and roll around in a dead fish.
We were like this when she fist came near us --------->> "What's that smell?" You groom your own dog? 258695

Oh and to the topic question,
Yep I groom Molly she's usually low maintenance just a trim to her coat throughout the summer months maybe an occasional bath (We like her coat long during the winter) Her nails are never long because she files them down on her own she's always running around on the asphalt and concrete. She doesn't like her teeth being brushed....so sometimes I get her one of those dentachews or whatever they're there called.

Same....its the same here! And I can't get him 100% dried after the bath either, I towel him down and take him for a run and most of his fur is dry but in some areas its still moist Suspect

Wow, Steven_L can I relate! It takes two of us an hour using blowdries to get him to the point where he is not dripping! And then if it is cold we have to make certain that we do it late at night so he does not have to go outside before bed. We try to never bath him if the weather is below minus 20 because he takes so long to dry!
