Yes I heard the same thing on Dogstardaily! Hmmm lets see... I think I'm going to work on Junior's beg stance (sitting on hind legs with front paws up) He's so goofy when he stands up like that, the poor guy doesn't have very much balance! What about you Mike?

What about you Mike? Right now I'm in seacrh for the next cool trick for Patchs. At the moment Im teaching Neka to "say her prayers" and Im working on toy names with Patchs. Once she knows and can retreve her toys by name, I'm going to teach her to put them away.

Teaching a dog to "Sit Up", "Sit Pretty" or "Beg" is all about muscle memory. It took Neka almost two months to get it figured out and we worked on it 4 times a day for about 4-5 reps each session. I started by letting her use my arm for balance. Then slowly raised my are closer to her head so her balance point would shift back and up. Then I removed my arm and just used my hand on her chest (between her frt legs). Once her hind legs figured out where her balance point was, she got it pretty fast. With Jr you may also be able to put your hand on his back to keep him from tipping over backwards. BTW, I also use a treat to get them interested in coming up off thier front paws.

One more thing, when you use the treat, hold it about 12" abouve his head so he has to look Straight UP. (Like he's going to howl like a wolf). That will make him want to leave his front feet and reach for the treat. When he can do that, offer your arm or a hand to keep him up there!!!

Oh there is no problem getting him off the floor, the trick is getting him not to JUMP, but I'm thinking the arm trick will help.

Patchs was just the same. She always wanted to jump. If you watch my Youtube video ( https://www.youtube.com/user/forcfed93#p/a/u/2/nGAPfLpiS54 ) from Nov. you will see that. That video was the 1st time she actually got it without my help.

But yea thats what Junior tries to do, I got to get him to raise slowly for it to work it seems.

Yep, i remember the chewing comment!!! The use of your hand on the chest or on his back should keep him from jumping.

Aww what I love about Junior is that he's so polite when sleeping on the bed, he always takes the corner and doesn't bed hog, I would love for him to wake me up when the alarm goes off though, sometimes I don't hear it!

Neka is still working on "Say Your Prayers" but is doing pretty well. Patchs is working on roll over and back ... This will be the last tricks for a while, as we will polishing them and working on keying them from a distance.

Great tips on sitting pretty! SammyJo has always had great balance doing that..Bandit on the other hand, can not seem to get the balance thing..he falls to the side or back. Offering the arm is a great idea. I will be trying that!
