A good breeder does not breed animals with genetic defects or which are carriers of defects. A BYB does not do important health screens and tests before breeding. A good breeder won't breed a dog that doesn't meet the breed standard A backyard breeder usually doesn't even have their dog evaluated to see if they meet the standard. A good breeder is careful and selective when making a mate choice and almost never breeds his own males to his own females A BYB will choose a mate that is convenient, local and cheap. Often owns both sire and dam. A good breeder can honestly evaluate pups' quality A BYB will say that all of the pups are high quality A good breeder will have a waiting list of buyers created before breeding even takes place A BYB will advertise dogs in local newspapers and on the Internet Give me 5 things a dog must be able to do to pass the Companion Dog test

Your female pet will live a longer, healthier life. Your male dog won't want to roam away from home. Your neutered male will be much better behaved. The cost of your pet's spay/neuter surgery is a lot less than the cost of having and caring for a litter. Spaying and neutering helps fight the very serious pet overpopulation. Give me 5 reasons dogs in shelters might be euthanized because they are deemed unadoptable.
