Rev up and Cool Down Exercise Vide

Saw an interesting exercise that people can do with overactive pups that want to play and play when you only want to rest, or for dogs that will chase or jump on boisterous kids. Its an a step-by-step by Virginia Wind:

Rev up and Cooling down exercise:

Step 1: In a room with no one else there to distract you or the dog run around like crazy and get the dog worked up for a good 30 seconds.

Step 2: Once the dog/puppy is worked up stop dead in your tracks, don't move, don't speak. If the dog or pup jumps on you turn slightly away but don't say anything and don't make eye contact.

Step 3: As soon as the pup begins to calm down, mark (click) and give him/her a treat.

Step 4: Continue to do this over and over again until the pooch calms down when you do.

Notes:

*Even though this exercise is meant to calm dogs down when children don't want to play, its important to remember that a dog (or any other animal) should never be left alone with a child.

*Don't do anything to hint to the dog that he/she must calm down before starting to play again, for this to work you must let him/her find out for him/herself.

*Practice this in different places and with different people so that the dog will get the idea that this happens all the time and not just with you.

*Once you've got this down well with adults, you may try it with children if you are sure the dog will settle down when it needs to.

So your guy's pooches would keep going crazy even though your standing absolutely still with no one in the room? Hehehe I'm thinking there'll be a time when they'll eventually sit down and give you a "Why'd you stop?" look. Cool
