He's started Rally Obedience now and our first class went borderline okay. About half of the class time was
spent trying to distract him from the trainers 11 week old Border Collie, who he's smitten with.
He does an army crawl up to her, trying to make himself look as small as possible, then goes belly up,
just like he does with his cousins, hoping she'll jump on him and play. He's also very interested in the fur-ball Sheltie's.
We're working on stops. He has no problem with Go. Five minutes into the class I resigned myself to possibly (probably) having to repeat the class when this one ends in 8 weeks. We'll see.

Yes, you may have to repeat the class, but I had to smile as I read this post because it brought back memories of Chip.

The word "Smitten" comes to mind in Chip's case too... If Baloo is half the clown prince I think he is, I'll bet it's the cutest thing in the world to watch!!!

Most males reach "that age" about now ... you know, where he's becoming interested in girls!!! Chip was the same way between about 7 months and 1 year. In his case, his affections were toward a 4 yo Britney Spaniel that lived down the block. Her name was Polly!!!

Well the distractions should help proof the behaviors a little more, but Baloo has demostrated to be a very intelligent pup so I'm sure everything with be just find Even if you guys repeat the class I'm sure its still going to be fun!

Yeah, even if we get nothing else out of this class, he's getting lots of close up socialization with other dogs.
And I'm sure he'll settle down and learn something. So will I. It was his first time meeting these dogs and I guess I can be glad he likes them all!

I'm sure that both of you will come out of that course alot smarter than when you went in...!

Baloo has decided that the training is just as much fun as teasing the Shelties. His turns are getting tighter and faster (I've been working with him on post turns and crossovers for months....he just didn't know why they were important until now), and he's really starting to read and comprehend my movements. It's like a lightbulb came on in his puppy brain! We tried the weave poles last night. He knows he's supposed to use those turns with those poles somehow, and I wish I'd had someone video his first try. He's twirling after each pole and diving right into the next opening. I may have to start wearing those depends thingies to classes, he makes me laugh so hard! His targeting is good but an ongoing process. He hasn't really figured out how that comes into play yet but we'll get there.

You are both obvously having the best of times!!!

Wow thats great to hear Ann! Looks that even though he's just a pup, he's showing so much promise! Keep up the great work your two!
