dholes -
smallish k9s native to India and historically up into Amur River / Siberian tiger country;
now mostly found in rural-India and the Punjab region, with scattered groups in satellite areas.
only about BC-size, wiry + active; they live in large packs, in part because tigers think of dholes as snack-food -
the more eyes and ears and teeth, the better. Wink

the recent reintroduction of wolves has cut sharply into the coyote popn - they do not directly compete for big-game,
as coyote cannot hunt elk or deer, let alone bison. they hunt rabbit, game-birds, steal fish from otters, scavenge bear + wolf kills,
eat any starved or winter-killed animals, take birds eggs, eat lizards and locusts...
but wolves will kill them if they can, and kill their pups, too.

Hmm thats definitely interesting. Around here (So Cal) the decline in coyotes is largely due to people...no wolves to speak of, the result is an explosion in the rabbit and squirrel population.
