theres a link to the full report, which can be downloaded at no cost, in the blog - http://tinyurl.com/23qdblv
this summarizes the stats of dogbites requiring medical-attn and their frequency, types, etc - amazingly, we now have OvER 75-Million dogs in the USA, but the number and percentages of dogbites per 100k persons is virtually unchanged from our past-popn with only 63-Million dogs, in fewer households. what does that mean? Dogs Are Pretty Doggoned Safe - AND getting safer.
now if we can just get people to stop triggering bites, via punitive, painful or threatening tools or methods, or allowing kids to tease, ride, poke, etc, or insisting that ANY dog allow ANY human for ANY purpose to interrupt their sleep, their meal, take their bone or food... Think how much safer both species would be! ::dance::

Car Crash Stats: There were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005. The financial cost of these crashes is more than 230 Billion dollars. 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed. About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States -- one death every 13 minutes. Obviously there are more cars than dogs in the U.S. It's good to see a study that delves into real numbers and does not attempt to break down numbers by breed. I feel much safer in my own home (even with my grandchildren here) with multiple Rotties than I do buckling up and driving 1.4 miles to WalMart.

I absolutely agree that things would be much better if dogs weren't provoked to attack, people also need to understand that any dog with teeth can bite.

yes, *anne - auto-accident that maim, cripple or kill happen every 15-mins in the USA. yet dogs kill an average of 10 persons in the USA every year - NOTHING remotely close to the devastation done by cars and trucks.
*steve, definitely -- DOGS DON'T WEAR DENTURES. anything with a mouth, can bite - fish, turtle, bird, U name it. cheers, - terry
