Just adopted a 4 year old pug. We are now a family of 4 dogs 3 pugs and 1 Brittney. I lost two pugs in the past year 1 to old age and the other to illness and didn't recover from surgery. The loss was great and although we had said we did not want to get more dogs (emotionally tasking) we did. The pug was deprived of all affection. She does not know how to be touched she gets very nervous. We are working with her and she is getting better. The major problem we are having right now with her is that she gets up at 4:30 am and disturbs all the other dogs. I would like to train her to sleep/wake at the same time as the others. How can I break this pattern? It is interfering with our daily functions, we are tired and cranky. Please Help.

First, let me welcome you to K9A. Smile

Its important that you be patient with her. As she is new to the family she may be on a different "schedule" than you are. EXAMPLE: She may be used to someone waking her to feed her at that hour.

You may try putting her in a kennel and keeping her in your room for a while. This will help her to get on YOUR schedule a little faster. She may wake up, see that all is quiet, and go back to sleep until YOU make some noise.

You may also try walking her or do something else to wear her down just before bedtime. A tired dog will be more likely to sleep better and longer.

Without more info on your daily routine, that's all I can think of at the moment. Maybe Steven, Ann or someone else has other possible solutions for you.

Best of luck,

I agree with crating in your bedroom if that's an option. where do the other dogs sleep? Whatever the pattern, she will adjust to the household routine in time.
