Dog hair loss Vide
PostSubject: Dog hair loss    Dog hair loss Icon_minitimeSun Nov 13, 2011 3:03 pm

We have a Pomeranian, seven years old, weight seven pounds. Last Sept. 2010 he was vaccinated and about 3 to 4 months later began to loose his hair, it became quite noticable in January of 2011. Our vet took a look and checked his blood, it was low but still in the normal range, so he put him on Thyroid. That didn't seem to make a difference. He did grow a little patch of hair across his front shoulders, but the hair loss has continued all over his body accept the one place he grew new hair. We have continued the Thyroid treatment, but in addition I have changed his shampoo, stopped blow drying his coat, and brushed alot less. Still no difference on his hair. One other piece to the puzzle is he loves apples and usually gets to eat the core. He usually spits out the seeds and enjoys his apple. He gets on average 3 to 4 apple cores a week.
We are puzzled and feel we must be missing something......know we are wondering if the apple seeds could be causing the hair loss???

I don't know the answer to your question but doubt that apple seeds would be the problem. Apple seeds in large quantities can be dangerous as I believe they contain some form of poison. I've seen many poms in shelters that had hair loss. Stress? Hormonal imbalance? Hair loss due to thyroid problem usually has a distinct pattern. If your vet can't resolve the problem maybe a specialist?
