Do you find this hobby cruel? The dog no doubts fulfill their needs to chase but some get seriously hurt and sometimes are abandoned when they don't race well anymore. So what do you think?

I feel that the laws in Iowa are pretty good and dogs are pretty well care for.

The only problem (and i think it's a problem across the industry) is that these dogs only have a few good years of racing before they are dumped into shelters and rescues.

I do not, and will not support dog racing just because of this.

Yes thats the problem I thought many would have with this. There are even rescue organizations that deal especifically with race dogs...so its no minor problem I imagine.

We have two dog tracks in Iowa. And there are probably 20-30 dogs available every year. A guy about 3 blocks away has one that he got from the Greyhound Rescue. It is a wonderful dog. He said it was fearful of humans when he got it. He's had it for a few years and it is very well adjusted now, but he said it was a lot of work.

Definitely not a fan of this... let dogs just be dogs...and chase when they feel like it and for how ever long they feel like it. I don't think it's right to make them do it like that.

That would definitely be true if the dog wasn't up to racing, but in the case of greyhounds, they LOVE to chase. What I think is wrong is people taking advantage over this urge.
