Grrrr my vacuum died today. Time for a new one. Any suggestions for a machine with good power, good pick up, at a reasonable price for picking up after all the hairy beasties in my house??

I have a reconditioned CMS1000 by Amway. It about 25 yrs old and still going strong. The only maintanance Ive had to do is replace the drive belt twice. And that was b/c I caught the edge of a throw rug and it stopped the brush before I could shut it off.

Its great on dog hair and easy to empty as it doesn't use bags.

oh wow....are those cms1000s still going? i remember them being launched....jeez i am getting old!!!! lol personally i reckon you cant beat a dyson! fabulous suction. lots of different shapes and sizes for most accomodation, no bags to clean, and very good at getting dog hairs up

Oh I don't know what mine is called....all I can tell you is that we got it in a thrift store for $20.lol. Works great and we had one that looked just like it, what I like about it is that there was no bags for it, you just empty a canaster I'll get the name of it though and tell you what it is.

i have a lot of comments that dysons are great. a little on the pricey side, but well worth it. i like the fact that they advertise no loss of suction. i seem to have a problem with that...and was forever cleaning all the filters in mine..to the point where i would have to clean them every time i used it, and still not having very good pick up. with all the hair here, and all the dirt and sand coming in on 20 paws and 2 sets of shoes..i need something with great pick up. we are thinking dyson, but have not made a decision yet.

oh no! bummer. mine started working not so great and it's been awesome. i really need to get a new one since I love to vacuum..haha
