Usually in dog forums in the nutrition sub-forums I see members occasionally ask how much they should be feeding their dogs. We all know it depends on the dog and their livestyles. Do you guys follow the guidelines on the bag or have you moved slightly away from what it says to fit your dog's weight better? In my case I know that for Junior we have to feed more than the recommeded because he doesn't keep on weight very easily and he loves to run, whereas Sheetza is lower because she tends to put on weight easier and that is dangerous for doxies. What about you guys, do you feed more or less than recommended and why?

They put feeding instructions on the bag!?!??!! I started with that many many many years ago!!! But over the years I have figured out about what they need based on the size of the dog and their energy level. If I change food for some reason, (Ive only go it 3 times in 15 years) I watch the amout of waist and monitor the weight for a few months to make sure they dont change more than a pound or two.

Hahaha, yes I do believe there is instructions there I myself don't use them now either, but at the very begining its a good start, but after that its all up to how your dog reacts to the amount. Just a little common sense, take away if they are gaining weight and add some if they are loosing it. Thats kind of why I'm always surprised to see people ask how much they should be feeding their dogs. :p

I have never noticed feeding instructions on a dog food bag but as funny as it sounds, better safe then sorry. I wouldn't put it past somebody to try feeding their dog the whole bag at once, like they need to put on plastic bag "Keep out of reach of children." Sad but effective. I haven't read the instruction manual, I put food on a dog bowl till it hits the top but not over-flowing and my dog eats what he wants and if he gets full he stops. If he eats all of it, I will give him another bowl in the afternoon or late evening and he is content.

Most commercial foods have a "recommended cups per day" on the back of the bag and its usually based on the weight of the dog.
