The guy that told me about it says he's been going for 3 weeks and there have never been less than 20 people there. He's driving 4 hours round trip...it will only be about 75 minutes each way for me. The clubs are so much nicer than just going to an obedience class now and then. As a member, you get use of space and equipment (except during events) and there are other people with varying degrees of experience in any given activity. There is also access to several trainers when you have a specific problem you need help with.
For instance, when I wanted to start Lib in agility, there was no one in my city that I knew of pursuing that activity. At the club, not only did I hook up with 6 other people training their dogs in agility, but someone noticed Lib's drive and suggested I let her try lure coursing, which I had no idea how to begin on my own. The very next weekend we were out in a field in the middle of nowhere watching a group of greyhounds running like mad. Lib was so attentive, I knew she wanted in on it.
We have a local dog park, but I swear my dogs are bored there after about 10 minutes of meeting and greeting other dogs.
They want to DO something. Lib likes competition, and I know without any doubt that she comprehends it. I'm hoping my new pup will enjoy at least some of the activities at this new place.
